Campaign Story

My name is Kimberly. I’ve been through years of fertility treatments. In 2018, I was blessed with a twin pregnancy. I miscarried one of my boys at 28 weeks and delivered them both at 32 weeks. Conor was rushed to the NICU, and I didn’t get to hold him until the next day. My son Myles who I miscarried, was given to me in a nursery blanket to hold and say my goodbyes. It was one of the hardest days of my life. While other parents were holding their babies, I was signing a death certificate and releasing my baby to the morgue. The next day I finally got to hold Conor in the NICU, he was 3 lbs. 10 oz. Three weeks later, I was getting very dizzy breast-feeding him in the nick you, the nurse sent me to ER. I found out my heart has doubled in size, and I was diagnosed with peripartum cardiomyopathy. My ejection fraction was 20%, and that nurse saved my life. The very next day (33 days) I got to bring Conor home from the NICU. I fought like hell to get stronger everyday for my son. I was out of breath walking up and down my stairs, but I continued to push and then I was walking down the driveway and around the block and around the park. I am now healthy and a survivor with an ejection fraction of 60%. Although I am recovered, my cardiologist is scared I could relapse and not be so lucky. My husband and I really want to extend our family, and my best friend has offered to be my surrogate. She knows my heart and my family and has been such a blessing to us. I would love to be able pay her and for the treatments. We have gone through all of the steps to get approved for medical clearance and lawyers, and we are ready to pursue our dream. My heart is overflowing with the generosity of my best friend to even offer to carry a baby for us. I am beyond blessed, and would love to give my son a sibling. Thank you for reading my story.
